Polymer Additive Manufacturing
In the 1980s the first Additive Manufacturing technology was commercialized based on a Stereolithography process. Today, we know more than 16 different polymer 3D printing processes, adding new ones almost every day.
Many different materials are available from the polymer groups of thermosets, elastomers and thermoplastics. The most widespread among the technologies for polymer Additive Manufacturing Filament Based Material Extrusion. This is reflected in the number of different system providers.
In our Technology Map for Polymer Additive Manufacturing, we subdivide the processes based on the ASTM / ISO 52900. However, methods are now known that elude a known classification. Systems from vendors use completely new approaches to energy input and materials. These technologies still have a relatively young degree of maturity. In addition, it should be noted that even with the same classification, the procedures may still differ.
